January, 2025 Newsletter
Hello everyone,
I hope all is well and everyone had a great Holiday Season.
As we start the new year your Mother Lode Art Association (MLAA) is in great
shape with all programs in place and all Board and Committee positions filled and
functioning. We are in good financial condition and looking forward to new
programs and membership growth for our organization. Our 501(c)(3) tax exempt
status is solid going forward and has enabled the MLAA to get such things as
preferred rental rates at County facilities and to solicit donation funds. Also, our
Board-approved bylaws are posted on our motherlodeartassociation.org website.
Our annual fundraiser, the 70 th Annual Mother Lode Art Show is our primary focus
for the next quarter. Christine Hally is our Show Chair Person and has been
working with our Board, Committees, and agencies and has us on track for
another successful art show. Christine is requesting “volunteers” for the Art Show
and can be reached at kinahalley.com.
On Monday, January 6, 2025, A special MLAA Board and Committee meeting was
held by videoconference via our new MLAA Meet Program which is part of our
Google Workspace program. As a 501(C) (3) tax-exempt corporation the “Google
Meet” video meeting app is free to the MLAA. The actual administration of the
Meet was done by Bill Heiser, our Webmaster. Some of the topics covered were
the success of the Student Scholarship Program, new membership and fundraising
programs, student art participation, the 70 th annual Art Show, and on-line
payment processing. The attendees represented the MLAA management team for
2025.
Membership Renewal/Dues
Yes, it’s that time of year. Annual dues for 2025 are as follows:
General: $25/yr
Patron: $50/yr
Benefactor: $100/yr
Lifetime: $250
Dues can be paid on the MLAA website, with our secure payment system.
Members can also download the membership form from the site and mail it in
with their check.
Our next monthly meeting will be on Monday, January 20th, 2025 at 1:00 PM at
the Sonora Library Conference Room. Our monthly artist demonstration will
feature our good friend, professional artist, and Murphys gallery owner Judie
Cain who will critique our members’ personal art. Judie prefers that: “… the
finished or unfinished paintings submitted would be unframed and with no side
being larger than 20 inches.’

Introducing our new MLAA Vice President:
I am pleased to announce Kelly Telfer as our new Vice President for the
MLAA. Kelly was voted in at our last Board Meeting. Kelly is a professional
artist and specializes in “Automotive Art” using acrylics as a medium. I would encourage
everyone to look at Kelly’s website at telferdesign.com. In addition to the high
quality of his artwork, Kelly also brings a wealth of experience in art business to
our MLAA.
Kelly has offered to store our art panels on his property effective February 1 st ,
2025. The transfer of the art panels from the rented storage unit to Kelly’s
property will save the MLAA over $1200.00 per year as an operational
expense. Special kudos go out to Kelly.
