November, 2024 MLAA Newsletter
Hello Everybody,
Fall is definitely in the air as we experience the change of colors and seasons and lowering of temperatures. This can be a special time for Plein Air artists and photographers and a chance to get out with friends and fellow artists to capture the changes on canvas and on film.
For our MLAA it is also a time to start planning for the 70th Annual Mother Lode Art Show to be held during the week of April 6 - April 13th, 2025. The Sonora Opera Hall has been reserved through the Chamber of Commerce and we are working with the Tuolumne County Visitors Bureau (Go Tuolumne) regarding a second County Art week. This is the MLAA’s Signature Event and is a rich tradition for Tuolumne County and the surrounding areas. Last year it was a great Juried Art Show as we had 178 art entries from 47 artists and photographers. Young artists also submitted their art works as did the Watch Program. We are continuing to reach out through the schools and education system to attract young artists and encourage their participation. What makes this wonderful Art Show is all of the volunteers that come together and donate their time in, and during, the Art Week. Our Director for the 70th Annual Mother Lode Art Show is our Vice President, Evey Pacholl. So, if you have some time to donate for our 70th Annual Mother Lode Art show please let Evey know. It promises to be another great Juried Art Show. The proceeds from the Show go to Arts in Education in our Community. In 2024, $6,000.00 is being committed throughout our local education system.
On the business side, Fall is also special this year as the Mother Lode Art Association formally received 103(c)(3) tax exempt status from the IRS on October 3, 2024. In addition, the MLAA now has Board Approved Bylaws which we posted on our MLAA website for review and as a resource for our membership. Amended and approved Articles of Incorporation have also been filed and approved with the State of California.
I am also pleased to report that all of our Board and Committee positions are filled and working together to produce a great MLAA product going forward. Our MLAA is made up of people who have had a common interest in the Arts and have come together throughout the year for over seventy-three (73) years to preserve our rich tradition. Our fiscal year is from January 1 through December 31st each year. Thus, it is time to renew our MLAA memberships and we are holding our annual fees at just $20.00 per family. We are asking that if you have a friend(s) that are interested in the Arts that you encourage them to join and participate our wonderful Mother Lode Art Association. All new membership applications and renewal memberships this month will automatically carry over to the January 1st thru December 31st MLAA Calendar (Fiscal Year).
All the best, Bob

Featured Guest Artist for Monday, November 18th, 2024 Meeting:
This month our featured guest artist for our November 18th, 2024 meeting is our good friend Heine Hartwig. Heine is going to demonstrate “How to do an oil painting in one hour”.
Heine has been primarily a painter of Western subjects, landscapes, mountain scenery, seascapes, and still lifes. The tones of his works is primarily romantic and peaceful. He started painting in 1970 working on his art in the evenings and a year later began painting for a living becoming a listed artist. His paintings are so exquisite by 1991 he was featured in “Who’s Who in America”. Years ago Heine told me he has sold over 15,000 paintings and I believe is one of the most accomplished, pro lithic artists of our time and a great friend to all who meet him. Heine is still teaching art and I strongly recommend if possible everyone considers becoming one of his students. I have personally known both Heine and Amy for over thirty years and I give him my highest “Marks of Excellence.”
I hope to see everyone at our next meeting and Heine’s Art Demonstration on November 18, 2024 starting at approximately 1:00 PM. All the best, Bob
